Advent Children’s Choir

For All God’s Children

Welcome

Welcome to the Advent Children’s Choir, a choir for all God’s children who love to sing. Students are invited to explore the joy of making music to the glory of God.

Meet Jane Lanning

Jane Lanning is a retired music educator having taught for 35 years. She was the
founding and artistic director for the original Adventist Children’s Choir established
in 2009 and associated with Spencerville Adventist Academy in Silver Spring,
Maryland. This choir won numerous awards under her direction. A native
Marylander, Mrs. Lanning studied piano with Dr. Stewart Gordon at the University of
Maryland while completing her B.S. in Music Education from Columbia Union College
(now Washington Adventist University). She continued her studies for an M.A. in
Choral Conducting at University of Maryland. Choral singing has been a part of her
own experience since singing in a select Treble Choir beginning in the fifth grade. In
high school she traveled as a member of an elite choir to Poland in 1975. They were
invited to perform for President and Mrs. Gerald Ford and Polish Royalty at the
Warsaw palace. Mrs. Lanning is passionate that today’s youth experience mindful
singing, especially when singing hymn arrangements about the love of God. Read More

Testimonials

Hear from our choir members and their families

My name is Nathalia "Nati" Hernandez, and I’m a 5th grade student. I've been singing with Mrs. Lanning since pre-K, and she's taught me how to sing from a very young age. I love having Mrs. Lanning as my choir teacher. She uses fun tools to teach us about acoustics and how to create cool sounds. Mrs. Lanning always motivates us to sing louder and not be afraid to use our voices. She explains the music we sing and its connection to God, which helps me feel more connected to the hymns. My favorite songs are "Sing Joy, Sing Noel" and "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho." I can’t wait to continue being a part of the ACC choir with Mrs. Lanning!

Nathalia

ACC was a bright spot in elementary and middle school. It was always super fun to be able to be able to sing with Mrs Lanning and my friends.

Nikolai

I had fun with friends and got to sing multiple parts. Also, I liked that the music was challenging enough that I had to practice it.

Silonia

ACC has helped me develop my singing talent and grow my confidence with singing and performing. Mrs. Lanning has given me several amazing opportunities to learn and grow. I'm very glad to be taught by the best.

      Frequently Asked Questions

By showing up to the audition.  You will be assessed for your reading ability and listened to for your voicing (how high or low you sing).

No, all members of the ACC will be required to participate in their school choir, if there is a choir. With only a weekly rehearsal this helps to maximize the student’s singing.

Rehearsals are only weekly and therefore mandatory. Two locations are being offered on two different days of the week, so you could attend the other rehearsal location as an option.
